Pairing a Shelly Relay/Dimmer with a Shelly BLU Wall Switch
Introduction
This guide explains how to easily pair a Shelly relay or dimmer with a Shelly BLU Wall Switch 4, BLU RC Button 4 and BLU Button Tough 1, allowing you to wirelessly control your Shelly devices via Bluetooth. The connection works even without internet or Wi-Fi, and supports smooth wireless dimming.
Pairing is completed in three simple steps:
Activate pairing mode on the relay or dimmer.
Activate pairing mode on the wall switch.
Select the on/off button.
Once paired, the wall switch will function as follows:
Button 1: Turn on / Dim up
Button 2: Turn off / Dim down
Firmware Requirements
Shelly relay/dimmer:
Firmware version 1.7.0 or newer
Firmware on the Bluetooth wall switch:
Version 10.0.22 / 10.2.20: Supports basic on/off control
Version 10.0.23: Required for dimming functionality
Pairing Procedure
Step 1: Activate pairing mode (learning mode) on the relay/dimmer
Method 1: Manual activation using momentary switch
This method requires a 230V momentary switch connected to your dimmer or relay.
Instructions:
Press the connected switch 4 times quickly.
The relay or dimmer will blink to confirm that pairing mode is active.
Method 2: Activation via web interface
In this method, you access the web interface of your Shelly device from a browser on your PC, tablet, or phone.
Connect to the device:
Search for available Wi-Fi networks and connect to the one created by your Shelly relay or dimmer.
If the device is already connected to your home Wi-Fi, skip to step
Open the device interface:
If the device is on your Wi-Fi, find its IP address in the Shelly app under Device Settings > Network.
If you’re connected to the device’s access point, go to 192.168.33.1 in your browser.
Enable pairing mode:
Click on the output/channel you want to pair.
Press “Start learning”.
The relay or dimmer will blink to confirm that pairing mode is active.
Step 2: Activate pairing mode on the Bluetooth wall switch
Instructions:
Press and hold any two buttons on the wall switch for 10 seconds. The relay/dimmer will confirm with 2 blinks.
Press the button you want to use for turning the light on. The relay/dimmer will confirm with 4 blinks.
Pairing is now complete.
Step 3: Select the On/Off button
The wall switch uses two buttons to control a relay or dimmer. Once you select the on button, the opposite button will automatically be assigned as the off button.
