Automations Examples

Here we are trying to bring som examples of different Automations

Ways to automate a Shelly

Shelly offers several powerful ways to automate your smart devices.
In some of the following examples, we combine multiple methods to create more advanced behavior.

  • Scenes: Scenes allow for semi-advanced automation using logic such as AND / OR / THEN conditions.
(Scenes are created in the Shelly app and require internet/cloud access to function)
  • Actions: There are two types of actions:
1: Fully local actions — executed directly on the device.
2: IP-based actions — used for simple communication between devices over your local network.
(Actions can be made both from the app and from the build in webinterface)
    Note:
Since we communicate with the devices locally via their IP addresses, it’s important to assign them static IPs.
Otherwise, in the event of a power outage or reboot, they may be assigned a new IP address by the router, and will no longer receive commands correctly.

  • Schedules: Schedules work locally on the device and allow automation based on specific times or sunrise/sunset. (NB Internet is needed)
  • Auto on/off: This feature allows a device to automatically turn on or off a set time after being switched on or off.
  • Scripts:

Scripting is a powerful tool for creating highly customized automations using JavaScript.
Scripts are not used in the examples below, but offer great flexibility for advanced users.

Notes:
In these examples Actions are made from the App, but can also be made from the web interface
